revelations

My First Formal Release:

For a while I didn't know how to put music on Spotify, and once I figured it out, I didn't know what exactly to put up. I have all these unfinished projects, and songs that seem to show great hope, but after days working on them, they slap you in the face and show you how much you still lack.

The Good

What I enjoyed the most was the rhythm creation. You see after years of learning theory, (more than 10 years ago) I've finally hit this point where I know the exact amount to suddenly dissect songs and understand what makes them tick or what gets me ticking on songs. I did this melodies for Adrenalin, Schemetterlin, and Matrix Unplugged, that I enjoy but as always there will always be more to learn and do.

Also the guitars on Schmetterling, I loved recording them. This is the track that laid the foundation for my workflow around recording and mixing guitars on the fly without spending much time figuring out writing and instead feeling the song and playing to it. It's a craft that took me years, so no easy peasy.

My favorite one --> Schmetterling

The Bad

But like any first release, there is a lot of room for improvement. Specially in Adrenalin, I thought the bass would be cool, because in my Audio Technica Headphones and KRK speakers they sounded like the nice snap and bounce. However it's so muddy that the snares can barely stick out and have their own place. They over take the entire room and make others not shine. Yep, bad, bad mixing, Bruno. But I learned my lesson, just leave a little bit of good bass, people will always find a way to turn it up if they like it. And also bass is not everything if it's not accompained by a good feeling, or a good melody, it's meaningless if it's not hanging with the right crew.

The other thing is sound design: I struggle with this, because most of my audio output doesn't have a style, and if there is one it would be gritty and lo fi. Certainly not what I usually enjoy but it will do for a first release. I was looking for, others reflect an emotion that I loved how they came to be. This is the Point A of a map, showing where it all began. The first iteration.

Conclusion

It's my first release, lots of learning to do on mixing and writing.

Next up, figure out my own sound design style.
